Anniversary Speed Graphic Camera - Eastman House Anniversary Speed Graphic Camera (used by Joe Rosenthal) - Folmer Graflex Corp, Rochester, NY - 1940 (Gift of Graflex, Inc.) - Now a little bit of info on this: In celebration of fifty years of camera manufacturing, the Folmer Graflex Corporation introduced the Anniversary Speed Graphic in 1940. It was available in 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 and 4 x 5-inch models. The camera improvements included a rising and shifting front on a new steel dropping bed and a new tandem track with rack-and-pinion focusing from either side. The new chrome details were changed to black trim in wartime cameras. Speed Graphics became the signature camera of photojournalists for the next twenty years. This very camera was used by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal in 1945 to capture his Pulitzer Prize-winning photo of the flag raising on Iwo Jima. The Anniversary Speed Graphic Camera is in the Technology Collection at the International Museum of Photography & Film which is located at the George Eastman House and Gardens, 900 East Ave in Rochester, NY.
